Here’s how to face your fear of outsourcing to a Virtual Assistant

I totally get it. Business back-ends can be super messy. It’s the last thing on your mind at the end of the day. You can’t really be bothered to make sure your books are in order, to make sure all those emails have been answered and filed into folders, to make sure your documents have been updated…

There’s nothing worse than having to take care of your own business admin at the end of a long day. Am I right? Unless you love this kind of thing, it’s the side of running your own business that most business owners hate. It’s time consuming, it’s painful, and it’s not what you love doing in your business.

Help is at hand.

I’m known in the Virtual Assistant industry as the ‘Virtual Assistant Advocate’. I run one of the biggest VA networks in Australia and help VAs along their own business journey. But as part of my role, I also educate business owners on how to use a VA.

And when I ask why a business doesn’t use a VA, the main response is “FEAR”.

Can you relate? Let’s have a look at this fear.

To alleviate your fear, I want you to ask yourself what you fear the most:

  1. Is it technology – how do you work virtually, how do you share files? Your VA will be able to explain all of this to you.
  2. Is it not being able to SEE the person working? Don’t let this worry you. If you’ve worked in an office before, no doubt you had walls separating you and could often spend a whole day without actually seeing anyone else working.
  3. Is it handing things over, delegating and letting go? This can be hard for everyone – but the more you do it, the easier it gets. Trust me, it’s amazing!
  4. Is it not finding someone who cares enough about your business? When you are talking to VAs, make sure you click with them.
  5. Is it not finding someone who is good enough? Again, when speaking to potential VAs make sure you tell them your exact requirements and ask if they have experience. You may need to spend a little bit of time initially to show your VA your processes.
  6. Is it not making enough money to cover the costs? You will have to use the time you save to work on your business to get money coming in – that’s why you hire a VA in the first place!
  7. Is it fearing the worst? Really – what’s the worst thing that could happen? How would you manage it? Go back to doing it yourself? Find another VA? You should always look on the bright side – things are always fixable.

Now that you’ve faced some of those fears, I want you to switch your thinking to the positive side. What’s the best case scenario? Where could you be in 12 months from now with some extra support?
